"I have always tried to hide my own efforts and wished my works to have the lightness and joyousness of a springtime which never lets anyone suspect the labors it cost." Henri Matisse
Great muted colors. The river shows the calm of an early morning or just at dusk. Really nice painting.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Miki!
ReplyDeleteLike this painting very much Casey - it seems to be so simple but that is not the case - just like in the quote. Very well realized!
ReplyDeleteAnother beauty! I love this series and your interpretations of the river- bravo!
ReplyDeleteThanks very much, Deborah. I'm happy you like these.
ReplyDeletePetra, thanks for reading closely - I appreciate it.
You have created a mood with the colors - you can feel the light fading away.
ReplyDeleteJean
Great to meet you, Jean. I'll be at the Sausalito Art Festival in Sept.- I hope you'll say hi.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. I love the blocks of colour and how they work so well to provide the image.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jeanette! The blocks-of-color thing will be present in a lot of these water pictures, now. A cool way to do abstracts, I feel.
ReplyDeleteOh... took my breath away.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Do you work on different colored surfaces depending on the subject, or do you tend to stick to a certain color surface that you use regardless of subject matter?
ReplyDeleteJala, the La Carte Sienna (a middle brown) is my mainstay. I vary sometimes to the dark gray or the antique white, which cover darker or lighter. For a warm dark paper, i use the dark brown.
ReplyDeleteAlso, if I want detail, or a particular under painting, or pure white, I use Kitty Wallis' paper.
For abstracts, I can't do better than Diane Townsends's paper. It allows for better erasing and rubbing.
Thanks for the question.
Casey, Your recent work has been awesome....what beautiful, bold, yet emotional work. I love them all water dance, naked tree and this one!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Loriann!
