It is nice to see you at work. I only hope next time you put the camera closer to the paper and you will choose a different angle so that I can see how you position the pastels. I can see from your work you use the tip as well as the sides, but it would be nice to see you showing your pastel-technique. What surprises me is the speed: the video suggests you work much slower than your drawings seem to suggest.
That's a good crit, Paula. I need these as I take my first forays into videography. I can see how I position them, but of course, I was there. Did you try the HD version at You Tube? I saw much more detail with that.
This is the middle of the painting process, and the gestural stuff (this work has that) was done at the beginning. I see definition happening in this, but too bad the last parts on the water don't show up - that has looseness evident.
There are a couple more resources around here for vids - my incredible wife, and my wonderful daughter, who is actually developing into a videographer. Once we find the video button on the D80 Nikon, a new world awaits.
Beautiful painting and it is glorious to see you at work.
ReplyDeleteMy thanks, Ruth.
ReplyDeleteNot only are you good, but you have to be the best dressed pastellist anywhere! It's a great piece Casey. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteHa ha - my hardware store clothes. Usually I wear two mis-matched patterns of camouflage.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliments!

Please don't call it criticism. Wishful thinking is better. I liked to see how you work.
