Upcountry Companion

Here is the companion piece to yesterday's painting.  The studio is abuzz with activity.  My two grade schoolers come out and play on the computer, Lorie organizes and designs the framing for my next shows, and I *supervise*.

Yesterday, while we were looking at frames and Lorie was crunching numbers for the frame order, I took apart an old work in the frame, wiped it down, and remade it to my liking.  Wolf Kahn talks about painting as a struggle.  He says, of a painting, that it is complete "when its potential no longer  requires articulation."  Chew on that tidbit for a while.

So, Lorie comes into the room, next, and says, "quit making paintings!"  She knows we have to get ready for the shows.

    LOL "quit making paintings"! that really made me laugh. Well, it is a stunner, so I am glad you made it!
    That Wolf Kahn quote is too much for me right now..but if I think about it I know I will appreciate it. I like your blog so much because of how much to refer to the people who were big thinkers!

    I love Wolf Kahn as much as I love Matisse. And I have a very new found love for pastels, glad I can learn more from your blog.

    I have a "Lorie" too! He is my Mr. and my editor. Many times I have read something that I have released for public consumption and thought "what the?". When I complain to Mr. Editor, he always says "did you run it past me? Where was the editor in this?". God love our staff!

    Love this one, its simplicity and bold statement composition- and value-wise, but subtle gentle colors. Bravo! The two paintings must be stunning together. I like the WK quote. I agree.

    Mary, I worked my staff hard in the studio this evening, designing and recording frame orders. Now, I'm wiped out, too. I also did several things at the easel, including a start on a Degas copy, and some artwork re-dos.. What a long day!
