Loriann, remember that gray-violet Girault? This one reminds me of that - gray-violet. Like the basalt sheer cliffs in the Columbia Gorge.
I used to go rock climbing there. Some guy drove a Model T off the cliff years ago; it sits on its nose rusting at the base. Here is a night time or evening picture of that area - sheer cliffs and desert spaces. Neutrals, but a play of colors with intensities, nonetheless.
I hope a guy can feel the place. The painting is small and imperfect (it hangs in California, now) but those imperfections give it drama and grace. I hope the viewer feels like 9 months of rainy days, but hopes for better.
Thanks much, Sara and Brian. I corrected the tags, because it is in my Prairie Series. This may be upland desert, but eastern Washington flat places are what I'm after - so I include it.
Ooo--very atmospheric. This is lovely.
ReplyDeleteWonderful luminescence! A gorgeous gorge with powerful geometry.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Elizabeth. You are very kind.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kathy. Your opinion ranks with me.
Lovely! I've never seen the Gorge looking so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joni.
ReplyDeletemmmmmmm, love the colors in this one. Looks like a different palette than usual. Would you say a little about your inspiration?

I'm learning a lot from how you handle this medium. I love the paper showing through.
ReplyDeleteHi, Jean. Paper showing is good shorthand with small works, and helps a lot with unifying colors.
ReplyDeleteCasey,
ReplyDeletethis one just glows! i love it!
It just speaks to me:)
Lovely neutrals and beautiful stroke-work, Casey. Is this a part of the prairie series or is it something new and/or standalone?
