Orange Butte
7.75" x 7.3"
Pastel (Rives BFK)

You will be seeing some upcountry landscapes here as we get the professional photos taken. This is an exiting time.
In eastern Washington, we have buttes, which are hills that promote themselves by standing alone.

Thanks to John W. Stinson for finding this video.
Always wondered what a butte was...that a long U, no? very cool.
ReplyDeleteSeeing new art from Casey is always exciting. This one is a real butte (ouch). In spite of the luscious oranges and violets, it's those grays which astound.
ReplyDeleteAhhh.. America the beautiful, where the wind do blow.
I assume John leans to the left just like every thing left standing out there on the Palouse.
Cindy, it is pronounced b-You-t, or like beauty without the last vowel. Maybe like, It's a beaut, if that's even a word.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
You'll have to ask John about his leanings. Since he's in Seattle, I'd be leaning west, into the wind.
ReplyDeleteMore new images coming soon!
Great pastel. Great. I am surprised that the painting is 7x7. Feels much bigger size.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Irina.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's a candidate for making bigger. I hope the sense of place is big, at any rate.
Those colors and shapes were meant for each other! I can't wait to see more, Casey.
ReplyDeleteThanks for looking here, Donna!
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful one Casey. i have some Rives BFK but haven't tried it yet. how do you like it? what are your favorite papers and sanded surfaces?
ReplyDeleteLa Carte is my favorite. Rives perhaps is my #2, but it does require more effort of me. It is hard to get edges, but there are tricks for that.
ReplyDeleteI have a ream of dozens of sheets of Rives BFK heavyweight.
P.S. I LOVE the little bright-orange sparkles.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work, Casey - very nice color relationships and composition. Looking forward to seeing more of your recent pastels as the photos get taken!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Brian.
