Inventory is a Never-Ending Task
Don't get me wrong. I am blessed to have a big studio, with several rooms and lots of organizational space. But it isn't perfect, yet. I very much need one of those framed artwork organizers, so I can access what I have when needed.
There is an upcoming exhibit in Spokane (more on that later) and I am having a grand time framing small works to fill out the display of pastels that will be shown. If I can get organized really well, I may open up the sale to include my readers here at The Colorist. No promises, but it would be nice to sell a few before they even get to the framing stage, as I probably have more than I need for this show.
One recurring problem for me is to discover framed works that never got photographed. It is possible to get a picture through the glass, and I may have to resort to that for two of my works that I found today. The photo shown is of a pastel titled, "Public Works Road." It is of an actual place, rather than the imagination. But, no record of it exists!
In all of my spare time ;) I may get these formally recorded and posted here soon. I am certainly feeling the holidays coming on, with fresh snow on the ground. Look for snow pics soon, too.
Cheers!
your blog always makes me think of all the things *I* should be doing! You always do the "right things"!
ReplyDeleteAs always, I love your colors. Can you recommend a good source for the mats and frames? I'd like to frame my smallest fiber pieces but don't know which web sites or sources are best and affordable. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi, Celeste. Actually, there is struggle with these tasks that aren't at the easel. Getting the little pieces matched with surplus frames, cropping them and adding pastel to them are tasks that I am delighted with, though.
ReplyDeleteHi, Sherrie.
ReplyDeleteWe use a local framing wholesaler. Whatever he;s got is the brand we use! The black frame shown here is a nice, matte finished black color, and I can't remember the brand, but I like the hard wood and dimensions. The look works with my contemporary style.
The mats are Crescent
You should try including in an artwork what looks like a mat and frame. How do you organize all your works? Alphabetically by their titles? Perhaps you could assign each one a 6-digit random number and then organize by this number.
ReplyDeleteFunny how a photo can emphasize different things - like this one: FRAME & MAT.
ReplyDeleteI organize by title, and the list is always short as works sell. Maybe the most I have at once are 40 works.
In my files, I have them by year, then title. Each computer file has the work as a separate file, then it has a RAW image, a 300 dpi, a 200 dpi and a 72 dpi image. Then, a text file with the title and size.
Elsewhere, I keep a file of all images at 72 dpi.
Because I took this one with the iPhone, it is large. You can click on the image, then zoom and see a pretty good image of the painting itself.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful one, Casey - I'm glad you realized it hadn't been photographed before it got sold. I look forward to seeing more of your recent pastels as you get the chance to post them. Good luck preparing for the Spokane show.
ReplyDeleteThanks, and good to hear from you, Brian.
ReplyDeleteWow you certainly do it right. I had fun catching up on your blog this morning. You always have food for thought. Thanks for all you do Casey! Good luck in your upcoming show!
ReplyDeleteHi, Loriann! I have been having fun in the studio, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteCasey, Loriann's post today has photos of her new organizing system in her studio http://loriannsignori.blogspot.com/2011/11/studio-and-constable-closet.html Wanted to be sure to bring it to your attention in relation to this post of yours.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sarah! With Deborah's new drawing table, and now Loriann's closet/new studio, I am definitely inspired.
