Snapshots from My October Workshops
Shown from the top are: New Mexico, Provincetown and Cape Cod, a sketch from Boston, and Freeport, Maine.
I'm always too busy teaching to stop and take a photo of the class. I rely on students sending their pics, so if you can, please send me some and I'll post them.

Dream Workshops!
I have to pinch myself at the prospects of the workshops that are coming up. Croatia! New Mexico! A demo at IAPS! Also, I am in the planning stages for Indiana, Los Angeles, Seattle and New York City. Planning is going out to 2018.
First, let's talk about the beautiful European gem, Croatia, on the Adriatic Sea. Instructors Ellen Eagle, Karen Margulis and others have reported wonderful experiences and I feel we're in for a treat when we go there in June, 2017.
Porec and Villa Gloria, in Istria, are the popular travel spots where we will be for 10 days. Our host is Mario Vukelic, who publishes the blog, Pastel News.

Remember I mentioned that Georgian artist Karen Margulis just returned from Croatia? Here is her recent post reviewing her workshop and the trip. Warning! If you are on the fence about coming, this will seal your decision. It is a truly beautiful workshop locale, with great accommodations.

Porec looks like maybe 40 plus miles from Venice, as the crow flies. Or the dolphin swims. Or - you get the idea.

Workshop Washington State
Casey demonstrating landscape painting at the Dakota Workshop Center, Mt Vernon, WA.
Photo: Coizie Bettinger.
18 artists and I enjoyed painting with respect to one's individual voice and ideas in the historic La Conner, Washington area last week. I painted 4 demos and 1 or 2 resolutions of student works. The class was attentive and eager to learn, and I am grateful to Dakota for this first opportunity to teach at a national workshop center located right here in my home state.
My workshop schedule updates. I am dreaming of teaching in Provence, Germany and Italy in upcoming years, as well as NYC and many venues throughout the USA. Dates for those TBA.

Getting on the Airplane
Please allow me these moments of glee as I get ready to board the plane for Europe. The brief is that I will be teaching a workshop above the Arctic Circle, in Lapland. I'm afraid I couldn't find any hip Beatles songs about that experience, but since I will be adding a side trip to Russia, Back will do just fine.
Stay tuned here for photos and updates about the workshop in Kemijärvi , Finland, and I'll be creating and posting some pastels as well. I have an affinity for places in the north, and am really looking forward to seeing this delightful and remote corner of Europe.
Back in the, er.., Russia, I just clued-in that St. Petersburg is known as the Venice of the North. I want to see the big Matisse paintings held there, and maybe I'll get to play Sargent as best I'm able, and paint some canal scenes, too.
For the more playful, here is the Beatles illustrated trip to Russia. Couldn't help myself.

Florence with Vianna Szabo
Vianna Szabo
Is Italy in your very near future? I want to bring Vianna's incredible workshop to your attention. It is at the end of May and is your opportunity to paint the figure in Florence. The hosts are native to the Florence region, and plan exciting art events to coincide with this 9-day figure/portrait workshop.
When you get back, tell me how everything goes. I plan to teach in the same venue in the next year or two!

Here is a blurb from their website:
La Romita School of Art first opened in 1966, under the guidance of Enza Quargnali, as the summer art program of Rockford College in Illinois. For over 50 years people have stayed at La Romita, painting the landscape, people, and towns in the beautiful Umbrian hill country, whose radiant golden light has charmed artists since the days of Perugino and his famous pupil, Rafael.

Big Bonus!
Musical accompaniment provided by Lyle Lovett,
That's Right, You're Not from Texas.
Austin is called a big music town, and I found out that is true.

Friday night demo. I met numerous blog readers and Facebook friends on this trip.
We worked hard to plumb our reasons for creating pictures - our Artist's Ideas. These are your personal agenda, apparent in every artwork you make. Here you see a rare moment of fun in an otherwise demanding workshop.
