Red Tree River
I discovered a medium Unison Indian Red stick that I really love to use. Also, I am doing a series on rivers (more on that later).

I love your new art.

Casey, It amazes me that this pastel has such a peaceful feeling; yet you created it with the most vibrant, stimulating colors. Nice.
Thank you, Rachette - thanks for reading.
Balance is the trick, Loriann. Thanks for the kindness.
Even with my red/green problem, I think this is terrific! The ghost of Wolf Kahn is on your shoulder (with apologies to Mr Kahn, who is of course, not yet in the great beyond).
Wow! I love the way you have created a sense of balance in this painting by offsetting the intensity of the red with the interesting shapes and lighter values in the water. Even though you used a variety of hues and values, there is a certain harmony created in the shapes and spaces. There is a great sense of depth in this painting, as well. Your work continues to amaze and inspire me.
This one is a feast, Casey. Gorgeous red, used brilliantly.
Oh, I can clearly see why you love it. Great painting and I'll be watching for the other ones!
Thanks, all. To the studio - but I will respond individually soon.
Ha ha, Harry. Let's describe his mantle, rather than his mortality - would that do better? Would that your kind comment were true. I hope to keep an eye on his work, but I am also trying very hard to "channel" Msr. Matisse at the moment.
Thanks for the comments, Miki, Robyn, Gesa.
Oh my god, this is SOOOOOO awesome!!!! Wow!!! This looks really different from your usual style.
Jala - thanks for the props (as they say).
Is it so different? No straight lines, that is true. Hmm...
Terrific pastel Casey. It reminds me a great deal of Paul Resika's paintings.
Thanks, Paul. I had to look him up, and found him in the school of Hans Hoffman acolytes.
I see stacked primaries in Resika's work - I'm very glad you see that in this pastel. It's not as representational as I first thought it was.
I also see him very influenced by Matisse.
Ive backtracked to this post; I think the River starts here!?
I'm liking this series as much for locale and this reoccurring red tree.

Great to meet you, Carrie. You found the "proto river" with a red tree, here.
Good work. I felt like not tagging this first one, as I started the series after looking at this one a while. No other reason.
What a wonderful painting to start the series.
there is such balance and beauty in this one. I have gone through and looked at the rest and they are all so very moving. There is a lot of "soul" to these works.
