Rainy Day River Sketch

Hoquiam River in the Rain
2.6" x 4.6"
Charcoal
Casey Klahn

The river series' continue to keep my interest in the studio. I am having a grand time and wanting to steer the series back toward the first Hoquiam River scenes that got the whole thing started. Here is a sketch of the rainy waterway, with emphasis on the gray scale.

Pastels will be posted, soon.

Beautiful charcoal study, Casey. I'm looking forward to the pastels. Thanks for the heads-up on the Wolf Kahn show at Ameringer & Yohe here in New York. It was a real pleasure to see his pastels and oil paintings in person, and a very pleasant way to wind down the work week. I came away with a beautifully published catalog of the works from the show, plus two other books that were produced for previous shows Kahn had at the gallery. You can download a PDF of the catalog at the gallery's website, by the way. I'll write more about the show on my blog over the weekend.

Awesome! I look forward to your post on the exhibit. I got a catalog there, once, and it was high quality.

I'll check out the website.

Nice sketch, reminds me of some little tonal studies I saw in a terrific book by Harold Speed on drawing.

Appreciate it, Steve. Value is big in this series, and translating it in pastel my current passion.
