For a hobby, I am re-learning the figure and the head from various sources, such as instructional books and You Tube videos. Before I took up the landscape, this was all I did on an amateur basis. It is crazy how much I have lost over time, and it makes the road back a little bumpy. But, fun.

In a manger for His bed
For He is our childhood's pattern;
Day by day, like us, He grew;
He was little, weak, and helpless,
Tears and smiles, like us He knew;
And He cares when we are sad,
And he shares when we are glad.

Five Years of The Colorist
Five-Year Letter. Click twice to read.
Kind Readers,
Today marks five years of this blog! Thank you to the smart readers who have participated in this blog about art and art topics.
In this time, The Colorist has published 1,063 posts. Artist's blogs don't get the huge audience of many blog genres, but we are happy for what we do receive in the form of an audience. The audience here includes artists, art patrons and university students throughout the world. Statistically speaking, there have been about a half a million visits here since 2007, when this all got started. Daily visits range from 250 to almost 600 hits.
Readers come here looking for Jackson Pollock and his masterwork, Galaxy. They seek news about the recently attributed painting, Salvator Mundi, by Leonardo da Vinci. They are directed here by following links from other kind bloggers, among them Pin Tangle and Loriann Signori.
Of course, numbers at an artist blog are not very big as far as the broader world of the internet is concerned. Perhaps it is the depth of images, writing, conversations and ideas that attract visitors. Content is always cited as the key to successful blogging, and I try to follow that advice.
Very popular features at The Colorist are the Top Ten posts by artist bloggers, awarded at the end of each year. Quotes posts and the 101 Blog Topics were also well received.
Thanks again to the readers of The Colorist for five stimulating and fun years. The future will carry more art, interests and interaction and I look forward to it with excitement.

Miserere mei, Deus
An itty-bitty pastel trims the tree.
Follows is a heartfelt prayer and carol as only the high church can perform. I don't belong to the high church, and am a middle to low church kind of guy. But, there is no replacing the beauty of the seasonal carols sung by a proper choir.

Music as Art - Bob Dylan & Tom Petty
These are how YouTube videos would've been like in the 60's if we had them then. Or, maybe I mean the 80s. Whatever.
You know I love Bob, and see him as the fine artist of music. I actually saw this concert at the Tacoma Dome, and the music mixing was tremendous. TP&TH were excellent at creating that wall of rock sound fans love.
I wanted to post these before somebody decides they need to come down at YOUTUBE. Enjoy.

The Art of the Landscape
Screenshot of TAOTL blog by Katherine Tyrrell
It is lovely to get one's artwork shown at various websites outside of the blog. Here is my pastel, Remnant Snow, at Katherine Tyrrell's The Art of the Landscape. Recently, she gave exposure to various artist bloggers who have done autumn images, and now is making a showcase for winter images. I rarely do snow scenes, so felt pleased to submit Remnant Snow.
Katherine's well-known blog is Making a Mark.
We now inhabit a cyberspace where your artist blog is not the only way to get your artwork out. There is a constellation of online venues, and it pays, I think, to spread your cyber bits around. My advice is to study and discern which internet venues will provide the most appealing space for your art.
Remnant Snow also appears on Facebook, here, and on Tumblr.

New School Color
There are enough inquiries about potential workshops that I need to re-tool my studio and, at least for this week, give more focus to the desktops than the easels. I have to buff up my workshop lesson plans, and create some flyers and press releases to give you a better idea of what I will be doing. Preview: I will be offering a workshop soon in New Jersey, and there is talk of teaching a workshop in Germany. I may also be doing one in eastern Canada, but the scheduling on all of these is not established.
Looks like this workshop thing is catching fire, and maybe one will be coming to your area in the near future.
