Personal Events

Two kittens remain in our home from the litter we've been bottle-feeding, and they're now dealing with some kind of illness. One is better, and the second now presents as sick. There are some other health things going around my family, mostly minor, but my girl has been sent home from school today.

On the way home, I ran over the neighbor's dog, which is a tragedy I've never experienced before. He ran in front of the truck, as I was slowing down and expecting him to chase the vehicle. That is a heartbreaking event. Somewhat removed from me, but serious, is a friend from my hometown who is experiencing a major family tragedy. This kind of time is what prayer is for, and I am sending mine heavenward today.

I'll be back with the new essay series in a day or two. Thanks for reading here!

Hi Casey,
Sorry to hear about your kittens, and all the other. We too bottle fed a litter of kittens, and had a little bit of illness to contend with as they grew older... have you tried worming them? That worked wonders for us. Hope things improve, and I look forward to the new essays!

Oh Casey...that is heartbreakingly sad about your neighbor's dog! My biggest fear is hitting someone's beloved pet while driving. My sympathies to both you and your neighbor.

I'm not sure why, but it does seem that bad things and events seem to happen in groups. Through positive thoughts, prayer and perseverance, events come to pass, hopefully with a better outcome than expected.

I hope your kitties make it; my cat was a hand-raised orphan and he's the most amazing cat I've ever had. Keep us posted.

Oh Casey, what a rough time for you with animals and illness.

I hope things are better soon.

Oh, Casey. How sad. The dogs mourn for the dog and for your broken heart because that's the way they are. They share everything. Our joys, our grief, our pork chops, and our bare cupboards. And, no matter what, they share the love.

Try not to pile on. Bad things like bad company. You don't belong there. You're good company.

Oh Casey!
I'm sorry to hear of so much sadness and health issues. I will say some prayers as well tonight for you and family and the kittens and of course the family of the dog. I have been on the other side of a neighbor hitting my dog and of course I was completely grief stricken, but I also felt very bad for the woman who hit my dog. I knew it was not her fault my dog literally flew out of the woods into her truck. Please know that it was not your fault. i'm sure you feel bad but I will say a prayer for that too;. I hope your little girl feels better:)

Take care!

Sara

Thanks for everyone's response. The dog's owner says she is at the vet and the cartilage of the foreleg is torn, but it is not a compound fracture, as I thought. That is better news.

The sick people and kitties are better, too. Trying to get back to normal!

As we say in the south, bless your heart Casey. Glad that it's turning around a bit, though.
Peace-and hang in there. I hate days like that.

Casey - I'm very sorry to hear of all these events - so many, so closely spaced together. I know that you have the strength and insight to overcome them... happy times are near! Hug.

Casey, I'm so sorry for these events. I know your heart is breaking over the dog. One year in college I tried to nurse two sets of abandoned kittens back to health (with the help of my pre-med brother). They all died and it was just awful. You're a saint to try to help.

Casey, I am soooo sorry to hear about the neighbor's dog....oh sadness! What a terrible thing to have such an accident. I feel for all involved. Hope the your family and the kitties are on the mend. Take care!

Thanks, Chris, Alyson and Loriann. We are very happy to have brought 2 of the kittens back from death's doorstep, although the litter did lose one when we got them from their "den," after the mother cat disappeared.

There are a couple of serious health problems remaining, with an elderly member of our immediate family and a son of a friend, who I don't know personally, both in intensive care. We're still on watch, but both of these patients are improving.

I will see the dog soon with a splint or cast, I'm sure.

I'm glad that the dog didn't get killed. And I hope everything else works out as well.

I get a message from all this craziness, the same message I try not to forget day after day... slow down, enjoy each moment, right here right now. I am glad things are improving.

That was a bucket of sorrow. What great news about the dog!!

I hit a dog with a car once. The dog survived, but it took a long time before I could stop thinking about the sound and feel of the thump, and the cries of the owner and dog. And then, the slow motion replay that went into syndication in my mind. It's not easy.

Glad to hear of the other news of improvements, too. Time for more good news!!

Kvan - that is my exact experience. It is tough. Good points, Robin, and thanks, too, Carolyn.

This is a great outpouring from my blog community. In other great news, I discovered how to post a pdf file at the blog/net. That is something I've been after for some time. My first essay, and several subsequent ones are about ready. I am enjoying my research tremendously, too.

Oh, I had assumed the dog had gotten killed. So glad to hear that's not the case!
Best wishes with it all...

Hi, Jala! Lorie visited the vet yesterday, and the dog had gone home. The leg is non-ambulant because of (probably) nerve impingement, secondary to swelling. What I observed at the accident as a floppy leg was not a compound fracture at all. Weird.

But good news.
