Workshop Washington State

18 artists and I enjoyed painting with respect to one's individual voice and ideas in the historic La Conner, Washington area last week. I painted 4 demos and 1 or 2 resolutions of student works. The class was attentive and eager to learn, and I am grateful to Dakota for this first opportunity to teach at a national workshop center located right here in my home state.
My workshop schedule updates. I am dreaming of teaching in Provence, Germany and Italy in upcoming years, as well as NYC and many venues throughout the USA. Dates for those TBA.

Painting Outdoors

Typical for me, I just did a few plein air sessions. I did paint a number of images out the window, though. Does that count?

Workshop Review - Bainbridge Island
Ed Center at Bloedel Reserve
Pierre Ouimet and Karen Sprague were two of thirteen students at the See Differently workshop.
Thirteen artists endeavored to provide something new to the world at my See Differently workshop, by making pictures authentically their own. Bainbridge Island's Bloedel Reserve provided us with great subject matter (imagine me in the tall trees).
The Winslow Art Center hosted this event, and we anticipate more in the near future. I want to follow-up with a workshop on blogging, and another on colorist methods. Those will be new adventures!

It's too bad I don't have any subject matter around here to paint. Just joking. I have been trying to get out and paint these canola fields in May for nine years, and finally made the effort.

Because of my personal history with the mountains and mountaineering, it has been my hip-pocket goal to do a series of alpine scenes. I wonder when I'll start that project?
Currently I am working on Bainbridge Island scenes, and have begun to do barn interiors. About a year ago I started the shoulders of the butte series. Then, the Hoquiam River series is ongoing. Also on my plate for the near term are some plein air works. Oh, don't forget Italy - I am revisiting my old Italy pastels to re-imagine them, and also pouring over old photos I took there. The other day I took a "drive around" the Florentine hills via Street View, and might try to do some practice works from that. Then, there is my return to doing figures.
Do I have enough subject matter to work with?

Bloedel Reserve Gardens
This is a long video. I usually don't post anything longer than 4 minutes here. This one is about slow. About peace and tranquility. About the type of beauty you only get at a slow pace, and in places like this.
The place shown is The Bloedel Reserve, which is accessed via Ferry from Seattle, and then a short drive across Bainbridge Island to the north end.
