Perhaps Pablo meant..."to expose the false arts of life, to pull off the disguises of cunning, vanity, and affectation..."

But, do you find no hidden meaning in an artwork?

Casey. . .

When we beat something to death with an explanation, all meaning disappears and we are left with nothing to examine.

"But often it's doubtful whether the logic of the work itself and the words used to describe it really have anything to do with each other," Thom Mayne.

Agreed. . .

That is why, at times when work is critiqued as to what propelled the artist to execute the painting, sculpture, drawing. . .etc., the explanation will fall short of the true meaning, if indeed there was initially a "significant" meaning other than to satisfy the whimsy of the artist.
